Tasting Notes
The aroma opens with light toasted grain and a mild bready sweetness, with faint earthy hops in the background. On the palate, it delivers caramel malt character — soft toffee notes alongside a gentle nuttiness — balanced by restrained bitterness that keeps it from going too sweet. The body is medium and smooth, with a clean lager fermentation character underneath the malt. The finish is moderately dry with a lingering toast quality that makes it more interesting than a standard lager.
About the Brewery
Blue Point Brewing Company is based in Patchogue, New York, on Long Island, and was founded in 1998. They were among the earlier craft operations to establish a serious presence in the New York metro area. Anheuser-Busch InBev acquired the brewery in 2014, which drew criticism from some craft beer advocates, though their flagship Toasted Lager has remained largely consistent in character and continues to have strong regional distribution.
Food Pairings
Burgers and grilled beef are a natural match here because the toasted malt echoes the char on the meat without overwhelming it. Roasted chicken or turkey works well for the same reason — the caramel malt complements savory roasted skin and drippings. A sharp cheddar or aged gouda pairs cleanly, with the nuttiness in both the beer and cheese reinforcing each other. Fish and chips also holds up nicely, where the malt sweetness offsets the salt and fat of fried batter without clashing.
Style Guide
American Amber Lager sits between a standard pale lager and darker Munich-style beers — it uses crystal and toasted malts to add caramel and bread character while keeping the fermentation profile clean and lagered rather than ale-fruity. ABVs typically fall in the 4.5–5.5% range, making this an approachable but flavorful middle ground. It diverges from Vienna Lager, its closest European cousin, by generally leaning a bit lighter in body and less malt-forward, suited to American palates that grew up on cleaner, drier lagers.
