Tasting Notes
Aroma is faint grain and light corn, with minimal hop presence. The flavor is clean and lightly sweet from adjunct grains, with a thin malt backbone and very little bitterness. Body is light and highly carbonated, which keeps things neutral and inoffensive. The finish is short and dry, leaving little aftertaste — typical of the adjunct lager formula designed for broad accessibility.
About the Brewery
Cervecería Nacional Dominicana is based in Santo Domingo and has been the dominant brewing force in the Dominican Republic for decades, with Presidente as its flagship brand. The brewery operates at large industrial scale and distributes widely across the Caribbean and into Latin American diaspora markets in the United States. It sits comfortably in the same commercial tier as Corona or Presidente's regional neighbors like Medalla from Puerto Rico.
Food Pairings
Fried fish or fish tacos work well because the neutral grain profile won't compete with delicate seafood flavors. Rice-based dishes like arroz con pollo pair naturally given shared Caribbean culinary roots. Spicy foods get some relief from the light body and carbonation, which help cool heat without adding complexity. Salty snacks — plantain chips, salted nuts — play well against the beer's mild sweetness.
Style Guide
American adjunct lager uses a significant proportion of non-barley adjuncts — typically corn or rice — alongside barley malt, which lightens the body, reduces cost, and produces a very clean, neutral flavor profile. The style originated as American breweries scaled up industrially in the late 19th and 20th centuries, distinguishing itself from European lagers by deliberately minimizing malt complexity and hop character. ABV typically falls between 4% and 5.5%. It differs from a standard pilsner primarily in that adjuncts are used for economy and lightness rather than to achieve a specific flavor ideal.
