Tasting Notes
The aroma is clean and understated, with faint grain sweetness and a hint of floral hop character. On the palate it delivers a balanced malt backbone — lightly bready, not too sweet — with mild bitterness on the finish that keeps things from going flat. The body is medium-light and the carbonation is firm without being aggressive. It finishes relatively clean for a European lager, with just enough bitterness to linger briefly.
About the Brewery
Estrella Galicia is based in A Coruña, in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, where it has been producing beer since 1906. It remains family-owned, which sets it apart from much of the consolidated European lager market. The brewery is closely tied to Galician regional identity and is one of the more prominent Spanish beer brands in international export, particularly in the UK and Latin America.
Food Pairings
Grilled seafood is a natural match — particularly gambas al ajillo or grilled sardines — because the beer's clean bitterness cuts through garlic and olive oil without overwhelming delicate fish flavor. A jamón ibérico board works well here too, the light malt sweetness complementing the salt and fat of the cured meat. Thin-crust pizza with mild toppings pairs sensibly, as the beer's carbonation scrubs the palate between bites. Fried foods like croquetas or patatas bravas also find a good counterpart in the beer's moderate body and dry finish.
Style Guide
Euro Pale Lager is a broad category covering the standard golden lagers produced across continental Europe, typically ranging from around 4.5% to 5.5% ABV. The style is defined by its use of pale malts, restrained hopping with a mild floral or herbal character, and a clean fermentation profile from lager yeast. It sits close to American Adjunct Lager but generally uses fewer or no cereal adjuncts, giving it a slightly fuller malt presence. Most major brewing nations in Europe have a flagship beer in this style, and the category prioritizes consistency and drinkability over complexity.
