Tasting Notes

Bodhizafa leads with a pronounced hop aroma of tropical fruit, citrus peel, and a faint piney resin note. On the palate, flavors of grapefruit, mango, and light caramel malt provide some backbone without getting sweet or cloying. The body is medium, with moderate carbonation that keeps things lively without masking the hops. The finish is dry and moderately bitter, with the resin and citrus lingering pleasantly.

About the Brewery

Georgetown Brewing is based in Seattle, Washington, and has grown into one of the largest craft breweries in the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 2002, the brewery built its reputation on consistent, well-made lagers and ales that found strong loyalty in the Seattle market. Bodhizafa has become one of their flagship beers and a standout in the local IPA scene. They operate a large production facility and taproom in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.

Food Pairings

The dry bitterness and citrus hop character here work well with spicy Thai or Vietnamese dishes, where the hops cut through chili heat without amplifying it. Fish tacos pair naturally because the citrus notes echo lime and the bitterness handles fried richness. A sharp cheddar or aged gouda holds its own against the resinous finish without being overwhelmed. Grilled chicken with a citrus marinade mirrors the beer's tropical notes in a way that feels coherent rather than redundant.

Style Guide

American IPA is defined by its assertive hop character — typically featuring citrus, tropical fruit, pine, or floral notes — backed by a moderate malt base that provides structure without dominating. The style emerged in the American craft beer movement of the 1980s and 90s as brewers pushed bitterness and hop aroma well beyond their British IPA predecessors. ABVs generally run from about 6 to 7.5 percent, and the finish is typically dry. Where West Coast IPAs lean hard into bitterness and dryness, broader American IPA allows a touch more malt balance.
