Tasting Notes

Titan leads with a prominent hop aroma of pine resin, grapefruit peel, and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, the bitterness is assertive but not aggressive, backed by a solid malt foundation that keeps things from tipping into harsh territory. The body is medium-full, which gives the bitterness somewhere to land. The finish is long and resinous, with lingering pine and a clean, dry fade.

About the Brewery

Great Divide is based in Denver, Colorado, and has been operating since 1994. They built their reputation on bold, malt-forward and hop-forward beers, with Titan IPA and Yeti Imperial Stout serving as flagship anchors of their lineup. They occupy a respected mid-tier position in the Colorado craft scene — not flashy or trend-chasing, but consistently producing well-constructed, high-IBU and high-gravity beers that have held up over decades.

Food Pairings

Burgers with aged cheddar work well because the malt backbone matches the fat while the bitterness cuts through it. Spicy Thai or Indian dishes find a reasonable counterpart in the resinous hops, which mirror rather than fight the heat. A sharp cheddar or aged gouda on a cheese board echoes the beer's bitter, funky edges. Grilled sausages — bratwurst or Italian — benefit from the carbonation scrubbing through the richness of the pork.

Style Guide

American IPA is defined by prominent hop bitterness, aroma, and flavor derived largely from American hop varieties known for citrus, pine, and resinous characteristics. It diverges from its English ancestor by de-emphasizing malt and leaning hard into hops, with bitterness levels typically ranging from moderate-high to aggressive. ABV generally runs between 6% and 7.5%, putting it above a standard pale ale but below the double IPA threshold. It became the defining style of the American craft beer movement through the 1990s and 2000s and remains the benchmark against which most hop-forward beers are measured.
