Tasting Notes
The aroma is light and grainy with faint floral and hop notes that don't push very hard. On the palate, expect a clean malt backbone — mostly pale grain with a touch of corn-like sweetness — balanced by mild bitterness on the finish. The body is light to medium, with carbonation doing most of the textural work. The finish is dry and short, leaving little aftertaste, which is characteristic of the style done competently.
About the Brewery
Peroni is an Italian brewery founded in 1846 in Vigevano, later headquartered in Rome. Nastro Azzurro — 'blue ribbon' in Italian — was introduced in 1963 as a premium export product and has since become one of the most globally recognized Italian beer brands. The brewery is now owned by Asahi Group Holdings following a series of acquisitions. Its lineup is narrow and lager-focused, with Nastro Azzurro carrying the bulk of its international identity.
Food Pairings
Light seafood dishes like grilled branzino or shrimp work well because the beer's restrained bitterness won't overwhelm delicate flavors. A margherita pizza is a natural match, the mild malt meeting the acidity of tomato without competition. Prosciutto and melon pairs well because the beer's dryness cuts through the fat of the cured meat. Fried calamari also works, where the carbonation helps cleanse the palate between bites of oil-fried food.
Style Guide
Euro Pale Lager is a broad, commercially dominant style characterized by pale malts, low to moderate hop bitterness, and a clean fermentation profile with little ester or off-flavor complexity. ABVs typically run between 4.5% and 5.5%. It descends from the Czech and German pilsner traditions but has been softened and streamlined over decades of mass production, generally carrying less hop character than a German Pils and less malt depth than a Munich Helles. The style prioritizes drinkability and consistency over distinctiveness.
