Tasting Notes

Hop Nosh leads with a resinous, piney aroma backed by grapefruit and a bit of tropical fruit. On the palate, the bitterness is assertive but not aggressive, sitting alongside a moderate malt backbone that keeps things from going too thin. The body is medium, and the finish is dry with a lingering hop bite. It's a solid, no-nonsense West Coast-leaning IPA that doesn't try to be anything other than what it is.

About the Brewery

Uinta Brewing is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, founded in 1993, making it one of the earlier craft breweries to establish a foothold in a state historically known for restrictive alcohol laws. They're notable for running a largely wind-powered operation, which has been a point of identity for the brewery for years. Their lineup covers a wide range of styles, but hop-forward beers like Hop Nosh have been central to their visibility on shelves outside Utah.

Food Pairings

Grilled chicken with a citrus marinade plays to the beer's tropical and piney hop notes without fighting the bitterness. A burger with sharp cheddar and caramelized onions works well because the malt backbone handles the richness while the hops cut through the fat. Spicy fish tacos find a good match here since moderate heat and hop bitterness tend to amplify each other in a useful way. A sharp aged gouda or cheddar on a cheese board also holds up to the resinous character without being overwhelmed.

Style Guide

American IPA is defined by prominent hop bitterness, flavor, and aroma derived primarily from American hop varieties — think citrus, pine, and resin rather than the floral or earthy character of English hops. The style grew out of American craft brewing in the 1980s and 90s, drawing loose inspiration from English India Pale Ales but diverging sharply in hop character and often in dry-finish profile. Malt presence exists mainly to provide balance rather than flavor complexity, distinguishing it from maltier English IPAs. The ABV typically runs between 6% and 7.5%, putting Hop Nosh squarely in the middle of the range.
