The American autumn seasonal, usually an amber ale base with pumpkin and pie spices — cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove. The squash itself contributes body more than flavor; the spice blend carries the beer. Colonial brewers used pumpkin out of necessity; modern versions are a spice showcase. Typically 4.5–7%.
