Beer with rye replacing part of the barley, lending a spicy, peppery grain bite and a slightly slick, full texture. Most common in hop-forward American forms like rye IPA; the German roggenbier tradition pairs rye with weizen yeast instead. The rye edge sharpens whatever style it joins.
