Düsseldorf's amber-copper specialty, fermented with ale yeast but conditioned cold like a lager — "alt" refers to the old, pre-lager way of brewing. Expect rich bready, lightly toasty malt cut by a firm, peppery bitterness from German hops, with a clean, smooth finish. At 4.5–5.5% it drinks like a lager with more backbone.
